Is a combing a stable surface
Quote from Joshua Saltmarsh on 9th November 2023, 2:10 amHello,
I have a company that does a lot of maintenance for Herreshoff 12 1/2 sailboats.
These boats are fiberglass, but with a lot of wood detail, including a combing, toe rail, and transom.
I'm curious if these detail pieces would be considered "stable" and therefore suitable for two part epoxy to build a thicker film more quickly.
Thanks,
Josh

As a generalisation I would say probably yes they would be considered stable if they are trim timbers. Joints and holes are your areas to focus on though really if you are going for an encapsulated epoxy finish. These are the potential problem areas. Do you have joints or fittings attached that could create potential water ingress points?
I don’t know if you have seen it but I created a video that aims to cover all of the points you should consider if using this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rhvc5-cltg&t=4s

Thank you!
