Learning Resources

Dan and Others,

I plan to build the Temptress starting in a few years, but while I wait for retirement, are there any books you would recommend that would help me with terminology, concepts, etc.

Thanks

Doug

A great book is  The Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction

Wood and West System Materials

Try Amazon

Also West Systems web site has some informative catalogues user’s manuals and series called Gougeon Epoxy Works a magazine they put out quarterly.  They are based out of Bay City Michigan.  Also YouTube from Dan Lee, Polymer Man, SnakeMountan Boat works, and Mike Green.

Thanks.  I actually found a PDF on the West System site.

I would second the Gougeon Brothers Book, for the practices needed in building Temptress and other modern wooden boat designs this is the bible for working practice 🙂

Hi Doug - I was new to woodworking, when I started Temptress.  I read the Gougeon brother’s book and watch a lot of Dan’s video.

Dan’s 1/4 scale videos are most helpful, for we amateurs.
While self promoting, I suggest you watch my Polymerman Boatbuilding videos as well.  You will see a novice building Temptress step-by-step, and hopefully avoid the many mistake I have made along the way.  And I don’t have a lot of tools, so perhaps it can save you $ as well.

Thanks Bob.  I am watching your series as well.  I am glad you and Dan re going first.  I have about 5 years of woodworking experience but no boat building.  I will start as soon as I move and get a new shop.  Still under negotiations with wife 😀
