US Equivalent for Morrells Plum Mahogany Stain
Quote from marineonthelake on 26th November 2025, 4:18 pmHello boatbuilders,
I'm looking for a US-available stain that matches Morrells Plum Mahogany.
This color is a deep, reddish-purple-brown mahogany. I need a dye stain or high-pigment stain that is compatible with marine varnish for exterior brightwork.
Morrells is not available in the US.
Any suggestions for a specific color/product from brands.
Thanks all !
Also should I epoxy the wood before or after the stain?

Quote from Dan Lee on 27th November 2025, 12:26 pmI don't know of a US equivalent other than the stain that Epifanes make but this is only in two colour options. I would look for something spirit based if possible and the best advice to always follow is to do some tests, including overcoating before starting with it on the boat!
I would recommend stain first as well, it should always reside in the wood grain if possible.
