1 Hour Yacht Varnisher – A Practical Varnishing Overview

About Course

If you want to understand the varnishing sequence without committing to a long course, 1 Hour Yacht Varnisher gives you a clear, practical overview of the complete process.

Using a series of specially prepared timber panels, I demonstrate the stages in a logical sequence – from preparing bare wood and applying the first coats through to building the varnish film, controlled flatting, final preparation and application. You will see how the surface changes, what I look for at each stage and how the decisions made early in the process affect the final finish.

The course is based on a traditional single-pack varnish workflow demonstrated with Epifanes Clear Gloss Varnish. Many of the preparation and application principles transfer to other products, but you should always follow the technical guidance for the particular system you are using.

This is a focused introduction rather than a condensed replacement for 10 Day Yacht Varnisher. The full course explores product selection, alternative finish systems, existing and failed finishes, stripping, staining, epoxy and two-part clears, flatting and polishing, troubleshooting, project examples and the wider decisions needed to plan different varnishing projects with confidence.

Study at your own pace, revisit the recording whenever you need it and keep the accompanying handbook beside you as a practical workshop reference.
