Here at DLB I am now well into the build of “Temptress One” the first of my Modern Wooden Boat builds. Initially instigated as a boat built “on spec” or self funded, I set out to showcase my work through videos sharing my developments in modern wooden boat building practice with others. I hope that some of the new practices I implement might be able to change the way we can approach building wooden boats in the future.

I am now looking to secure the sale of this boat and find its new owner. Whilst originally hoping to fund this project entirely through the video series that accompanies it, it has become apparent that this will be unlikely and so I am going to need to find a buyer for the boat at some stage throughout the build.

About The Boat

Temptress is a 24′ modern wooden powerboat designed to deliver a classically styled runabout with modern conveniences, minimal maintenance, quality and style. Designed by Michel Berryer and kitted by Dan Lee to be built utilising the latest in CAD design, CNC cutting and epoxy wood construction.

Should you wish to build this boat yourself, plans are available for digital download. Files can be taken to any CNC shop worldwide to get yourself a kit cut for simple, straightforward and efficient home building!

A Blend of Technology and Craftsmanship

My new wooden boats are formulated from a blend of modern technology processes fused with traditional craftsmanship. Through CAD design we build a strong pre-planned foundation from which all boats are efficiently built. Modelling everything down to the last bolt enables me to decide and plan the build process long before the first boards are sawn.

Finished By Hand

CNC machining will only get you so far. Once the framing of the boat is setup, there is no substitute for a trained eye sighting down the lines of a boat as the topside battens are set in! Everything from here on out is down to my own pair of hands to finish things.

CNC Cutting

This process feeds naturally into the CNC cut elements of the build. All frame components, bulkheads, jigs and alignment systems are CNC cut to ensure accuracy and repeatability during the setup stages of the build.

Design Functionality and Beauty

Temptress has been designed with modern day features and functionality in mind. Fittings are custom fabricated from marine grade Stainless Steel to ensure that the brightwork will require minimal upkeep even in the harshest of environments.

It is only natural that the finest wooden boats should be paired with the finest engines available. In 2022 Dan Lee Boatbuilding was established as the first UK based OEM for Ilmor Marine Engines. Temptress will run Ilmor’s 5.3L GDI engine, delivering quality, reliability and power on demand without the customer ever having to know the engine is there.
