Laminations & Epoxy
Quote from Mike59 on 5th May 2026, 7:12 pmHello,
I'm currently building several stile and rail carriage doors in sapele for my barn to eventually build a boat! The building is a high efficiency/performance envelope but with 1880's Victorian architectural detailing.
I am wondering if I cannot borrow from epoxy wood boat building for the door panels themselves to provide both air tightness and vapor drive resistance.
I am thinking about laminating 3" wide T&G vertical planks on marine ply to make a floating panel which I would Sikaflex into the door frame rabbit. Stain and varnish the exterior and a thin mineral wool insulation layer, interior panel and latex paint on the inside.
I know this is boat adjacent but I was wondering if this would make a stable panel that would not cause any rot issues while meeting my air tightness needs.
The doors will look like the attached photo.
