Playboy MkII is a modernised plywood boat building plan, based on the original design of Playboy by William Jackson. The design is for an outboard powered, open utility runabout with seating for up to 6 people. Playboy is a great little boat, a perfect first time boat build that can be done in a garage sized workshop. The end result will leave you with a sensibly sized boat that can be easily trailered, manoeuvred and launched but is still big enough for day trips with the family.

After building my own version of Playboy in 2012 we used the boat quite extensively on lakes, rivers and the sea. The hull is a lovely stable design that will allow you to stand on her side deck as you get in the boat without it wanting to throw you out! Space is great in Playboy, particularly for such a small boat, we often did river trips in her with 6 people on board which is good going for a 13ft boat I would say! The aft bench seat layout allows the diver access to the engine even if there are 6 people on board. The space up the middle also allows ample space for gear such as Skis.

Playboy MkII is much the same as the original design. I have made several small corrections to the measurements of frame heights, but other than that the hull and general layout is as per the original. There are several parts that I have improved upon from the original plans, particularly with respect to modern manufacturing methods. All of the seat supports are a little more styled than the original ones and are notched into the frames to give a positive alignment when building the boat.

Boat Building Plan Set

The boat building plan set is for a plywood skinned version of Playboy MkII. It contains an illustrated PDF document showing assembly of the parts and a 3D STEP model for referencing the general assembly and location of all components. DXF files for all components are pre nested into sized bounding boxes ready for importing to CAD software for CNC cutting. PDF versions are also provided so that full size paper patterns can be printed for manual cutting. Files are supplied in digital format only and are available to download directly at the checkout.
